Hotel Arts is a stone’s throw from the Pengrowth Saddledome, Calgary's largest sports and concert venue (home of the NHL Calgary Flames, Calgary Hitmen and Calgary Roughnecks Lacrosse Team). The Saddledome is on the grounds of the annually-held Calgary Stampede: The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth—a world-famous celebration of everything cowboy.
Four blocks north of Hotel Arts is a great chance to explore the historic Stephen Avenue Walk. One of downtown Calgary’s most famous streets, it’s lined with chic bistros, cocktail bars and the city’s most fashionable boutiques and shopping centre. Here you’ll also find the EPCOR Centre for Performing Arts—home of One Yellow Rabbit, Theatre Calgary, Alberta Theatre Projects, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Alberta Ballet and Calgary Opera, as well as numerous performance groups and touring acts. The Glenbow Museum, TELUS Convention Centre, Calgary Tower, Olympic Plaza, Art Central, Art Gallery of Calgary, Fashion Central and a dizzying host of other gems are also located in the area.
A few blocks south of Hotel Arts is 17th Avenue, a see-and-be-seen boulevard of fashion and dining that is not to be missed. Home of the ‘Red Mile,’ 17th Avenue becomes a mile-long stretch of restaurants and bars that revels in the Calgary Flames spring playoff run.
Also nearby is the Design District, a collection of furniture and home décor stores, spas, restaurants, architects and art galleries galore.
