Calgary’s Pride Festival is a 10-day city-wide celebration that takes place from August 24th to September 3rd, 2018. With various events from Pride Day with the Calgary Stampeders to the Annual Calgary Pride Festival Parade and everything in between, it’s bound to be the most colourful 10 days of the year.

Below are a few “must see” events during Calgary Pride Festival that you won’t want to miss!

Shake, Stir & Strainbow (Aug. 18 to Sept. 2)

This fun-filled LGBTQ2+ fundraiser cocktail campaign from August 18th to September 2nd is presented by Eat North, Vine Arts and Victoria Park Business Association while bringing together over 30 restaurants including local favourites Raw Bar, Proof and Ten Foot Henry. One dollar from each feature cocktail will be donated to the Skipping Stone Foundation, a Calgary based not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support and empower transgender and gender diverse youth and their families across Alberta. So come and sip away deliciously fun cocktails, like Raw Bar’s “Flippin’ Fierce” cocktail (recipe below), to promote diversity, respect and equality in Calgary!

“Flippin’ Fierce” by Franz Swinton at Raw Bar

1 ½ oz. White Sambuca

½ oz. Martini Bitter

1 ½ oz. Cold Brewed Coffee

½ oz. Orange Blossom Syrup

1 Egg Yolk

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into old-fashioned Champagne glass.

Sashay, Fillet! (Aug. 30)

The worlds of culinary and drag collide during Calgary Pride’s only official celebratory food event that will see top Calgary chefs paired up with local drag talent on August 30th at Hotel Arts. The drag and chef duos will be put through a series of interactive challenges onstage throughout the evening while guests enjoy a welcome cocktail and various delicious canapé stations. Top Chef Canada’s Mijune Pak and Yuhua Hamasaki of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 10 will co-host the evening as well as judge the duos on their challenges.

Pride Parade (Sept. 2)

The annual Calgary Pride Parade returns this year for its 28th iteration on September 2nd with an 11am start time. This signature event that paints all of Downtown Calgary with rainbows and smiles proudly welcomes non-profit organizations, businesses of any size, politicians, political parties, churches, unions, and more to come together and celebrate Calgary’s diversity.

Pride in the Park (Sept. 2)

Immediately following the Pride Parade, make your way to Prince’s Island Park to enjoy one of Calgary’s largest free outdoor cultural celebrations. Enjoy live music on the main stage, activities for youth and children in the family zone, a cold beer or refreshing cocktail in the Village Brewery Beer Gardens, or get better acquainted with the local community as you browse the marketplace.
