Illuminating Calgary.

Chinook Blast is illuminating Calgary with a series of light and art installations running now through February 28th. Explore The Hub with light installations throughout downtown Calgary and partner pop-ups in neighbouring communities.

As a part of the winter festival, the parking lot at Hotel Arts has been converted into a giant container-block fort called Fort Chinook. The Victoria Park BIA partnered with Big Art, to create this wondrous sculpture. When working with the artists to conceptualize the installation, David Low, executive director of Victoria Park BIA, wanted something to remind his Victoria Park neighbours and fellow Calgarians that we can still do really cool things safely. “For Victoria Park, we have a long reputation of doing authentic events, and as a part of Chinook Blast, we wanted to be a beacon of hope in these rough times”.

An icon for brighter days ahead, Fort Chinook is illuminating the neighbourhood with a transitioning series of LED lights. Designed with 100 container-blocks, Fort Chinook shines as a symbol of strength and hope, prompting our community to stay strong.

“Hotel Arts has been an anchor in the community for such a long time as a promoter and supporter of the arts, when we were looking for a host location, it was a natural fit to collaborate.” Says Low.

Visit Fort Chinook at Hotel Arts from February 17th – 28th. Make it a night out and pair your illuminated art walk with dinner and drinks at Yellow Door Bistro, now open Wednesday-Sunday.
