Get to know Chef Scott Redekopp of Yellow Door Bistro!

YYC Food and Drink Experience kicks off Friday, February 28th and runs until March 15th. Yellow Door Bistro has created two prix fixe menus (lunch and dinner) for the foodie festival.
We caught up with Chef Scott Redekopp to ask him some personal questions so you can get to know the mind behind some Yellow Door Bistro’s most creative offerings.


At what age did you start cooking?

Professionally, I was 19 but I was experimenting with grilled cheese at 11.

At what time of day do you get your best ideas?

Before bed and while I sleep.

What’s the best thing you’ve eaten in your life?

Too many to choose from but off the top of my head, a croissant from Bryn Rawlyk at The Night Oven Bakery in Saskatoon.

Honestly, what do you eat for breakfast? Coffee? Fruit Loops?

Coffee and peanut butter on sourdough.

What ingredients do you gravitate towards in the produce section?

Garlic.

Favourite ‘Calgary’ supermarket / farmers market?

Crossroads Market.

Do you watch food shows on Netflix? If so, what’s your favourite?

Mind of a Chef and anything from Anthony Bourdain.

Tell us about any food movement that interests you at the moment.

Vegan.

What are you excited for the public to try on your YYC Food and Drink Experience prix fixe menu?

The Foie Gras. (aside, lol right after I say vegan I say Foie Gras…oops).

Favourite restaurant in Victoria Park?

Bar Von Der Fels.

Favourite coffee shop?

My favourite is Fresh Blend Coffee & Sandwich Bar in Varsity. The family there takes great pride in their establishment and they also make the best latte in the city!

Your go to cocktail place?

The Tea House by Two Penny.

If you weren’t a chef, what would you likely be?

A carpenter.

Do you have chickens in your backyard? Beehive?

No backyard, just pots of herbs and other plants.

Who really does the cooking at home?

Me … It was the only way I could get her to marry me!
