Hotel Arts Group Environmental Policy

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL MISSION

Hotel Arts Group is committed to minimizing our impact on the environment through our environmental policy, which encompasses resource conservation, sustainable purchasing, and engaging our guests and employees.
We challenge the ordinary. We innovate. We forge lasting relationships and connect with the local business, arts, culture and tourism communities. And in doing this, something magical happened — the local community has connected with us.
Hotel Arts has become a place where locals and tourists alike feel like they belong. This sense of belonging remains part of our everyday culture, and we foster it through our personalized service and boutique experience.

In, of, and for our community, we aspire to leave our space better than we found it. This includes our ongoing commitment to the environment. Recycling, composting, energy conservation, local sourcing, and reduction of waste are all green practices that we practice and advocate.

In delivering this commitment, our staff, guests, and suppliers will work to:

  • Responsibly manage the environmental impacts of our business
  • Reduce energy and water consumption through efficiency and best practices
  • Minimize waste and pollution
  • Comply with all applicable environmental regulations
  • Properly handle and minimize use of hazardous substances
  • Factor environmental considerations into purchasing decisions
  • Train all staff in environmental management practices
  • Engage our guests in reducing our environmental impact
  • Continuously improve our environmental management and performance through an annual review process

We strive to be champions of our city. Hotel Arts Group brings people together, sharing knowledge and ideas and encouraging our customers and guests through all facets of our business to enjoy all the city has to offer.

COMMITMENTS

We are committed to environmental sustainability and continuously review and grow our environment policy. Hotel Arts Group is a reflection of our city; its spirit and its energy and all of the attributes that make the community unique. We support local products, talent, food and beverage, and work with local farmers, producers, and organizations to procure and showcase their fare wherever possible.
Looking at the full lifecycle of sustainability at Hotel Arts Group we promote environmental practices across our departments and throughout our community. We promote and practice green initiatives throughout our group, including:

  • Our Buildings
  • Our Team
  • Our Guests
  • Our Housekeeping & Engineering
  • Our Culinary
  • Our Procurement
  • Our Community

Environmental Initiatives Include:

Reduction of Single Use Plastics: To reduce the use of plastic bottles, Hotel Arts has installed a Vivreau water system (still and sparkling water filtered and bottled in-house). This is offered complimentary to our restaurant patrons and hotel guests. Biodegradable to-go containers are used for takeout packaging from our restaurants, rooms service and events. We have eliminated packaging waste from individually bottled amenity products through the introduction of skoah amenity dispensers offering Canadian made shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and body wash.

Composting: The Hotel Arts composting program diverts a significant portion of our organic waste away from the landfill. This includes waste from our room service, restaurants, and catering, such as food scraps, teabags, coffee grinds, paper napkins and paper towels.

Sustainable Renovations: Working with award-winning B&H CHIL Design and Calgary-based DIRTT Solutions, the newly renovated Studio Rooms are an innovative product that provides guests with a stylish, comfortable hospitality experience. DIRTT’s modular construction boasts long-term environmental benefits such as reduced construction waste.

Resource Conservation: Hotel guests are offered a linen/towel reuse program. Our in-house laundry facility features high-efficiency equipment. Using our in-house laundry service also reduces the carbon footprint of delivery. Our discarded linens are donated, keeping them out of the landfill and supporting the local community. Hotel Arts uses an onsite recycling, compost, garbage, and cardboard compactor. To ensure there is no excess energy use in vacant guestrooms, Hotel Arts has standards for thermostat set points, and operates with preventative maintenance schedules and programs for all building equipment. Our hotel has new high-efficiency boilers and updated heat exchangers to improve efficiency. We track and analyze our annual electricity, natural gas and water use and measure our waste diversion.
